POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION AND SUPPORTS (PBIS)
At John Adams High School, one of our school wide initiatives is to support each student holistically in their educational journey. Through Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS), our school recognizes the importance of meaningful relationships and overall wellness for its staff and students. Our goal is to support each member of our community through various resources and interventions.
WHAT IS PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. The PBIS framework ensures the success of all students through a unique individual approach. The process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior, wellness and goal directed actions for all students. PBIS provides systems for schools to design and implement, evaluate effective school wide, classroom, non-classroom and student specific plans. Through a team based process, systemic problem solving, planning and evaluation, the goal is to create a safe and productive leaning environment where all students can succeed.
PBIS AT ADAMS
Through PBIS, our goal as a school community is to reinforce positive behavior to help educate, and support our students. By teaching and modeling, we are encouraging pro-social skills and behaviors to help students manage their wellbeing and academic journey. In our Spartan community, we want all members to Be Mindful, Be Welcoming, and Be the Solution. Aligned with the New York City Department of Education discipline code, your child will learn our school matrix mission. Our School Motto, “Keep Raising the Bar” reminds us to always increase our standards and expectations for excellence, to always set goals, foster a growth mindset and to engage in a state of reflection through feedback and data. PBIS RACK'EM UPS
Students can earn PBIS Rack (Random Acts of Caring and Kindness) ‘Em Up Rewards, by accumulating points for good behavior and exchanging them for privileges and items, fostering empathy and respect within the school community and enhancing the overall learning experience.
PBIS Rewards Student is the student portal to PBIS Rewards. Students can use the app to see how they’re doing and can see what rewards are available as they continue having success within their school’s PBIS Rewards program. The PBIS Rewards suite includes the PBIS Rewards Staff App (for teachers and admins), the PBIS Rewards Student App and the PBIS Rewards Parent App.
