Students explore and apply the fundamentals of emergency medical services, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology while demonstrating skills in assessing and managing patient care, including assessing the scene and understanding shock, resuscitation, and trauma.
The PRE-MED Academy is a dynamic academic community in which students explore the various opportunities within the world of health and medicine. The 4 year course load provided to our PRE-MED students equips them with knowledge, skills, and competencies to be successful in a premedical program at a university. Such courses include, Anatomy & Physiology, Comparative Anatomy & Dissections, Forensics, EMT, and Medical Diagnostics. Pre-Med students also have the ability to take AP and College Now courses to earn college credits.
Moving beyond a basic understanding of how your body works this course will provide a comprehensive insight into all structures and functions and how your systems work together to keep you healthy.
Such topics learned:
Structure and function of the body, and the connection between the two.
Homeostasis: the body’s natural tendency to maintain a stable internal environment.
Levels of Organization: the major levels of organization, Cells-Tissues-Organs-Organ Systems
Integration of Systems: How system work together to maintain homeostasis
Anatomy & Physiology
Comparative Anatomy and Dissection
The structure and function of invertebrate & vertebrate organisms are discussed with reference to evolutionary and development history. Laboratories include macroscopic study of these systems through virtual and hands on dissections of various organisms.
The application of science for solving crimes.
This is a course rich in exploration and lab investigation which applies many disciplines of scientific study such as biology/anatomy, chemistry, and physics to solving crimes.
A lecture and lab based course that focuses on diseases and disorders that affect major systems. Students will gain an in-depth knowledge of these diseases & disorders and the skills to diagnose and treat them. Real life lab simulations and case studies will be created to give our students an authentic experience.
